NIght Shooting in Yala National Park

Getting shots like this nighttime image takes some organisation.
You really need to be a long way from any bright lights, like a village or township, have a clear sky, a solid tripod and patience. Set the ISO to 1600 or maybe 3200, the aperture to wide open and the shutter speed to around 10 or 20 secs. That should do it.
Use a cable release or the self-timer to fire the shutter. In this example, because it was so dark (at 4am), I added light to the tree in the foreground using my torch app on my iPhone. The file was then processed using Aurora HDR Pro to bring out the structure (essentially local contrast) to emphasise the stars against the dark sky background.
