You then spend half the day shooting short clips to practice focusing, metering, motion and capture techniques. We spend the majority of the day shooting a project set by the tutor. Assistance is given at all times for getting the most stable footage possible.

Mastering Your Speedlight: Camera and Flash Made Easy

This photography course offers students the opportunity to shoot amateur models, both indoors and on location, using on-camera and accessory flash. HDR Photography Course
One of the biggest technical limitations imposed on digital photographers is the inability to capture a wide tonal (dynamic) range in one shot. Inevitably, one gets the highlights and no shadows, or the shadows and no highlights. The only way to deal with this shortcoming is to shoot and process multiple exposures to produce what’s called a High Dynamic Range (or HDR) photograph. In this way, both highlight and shadow details are included, thus creating stunning visual effects. This course will cover the practical as well as the theoretical aspects of HDR photography.

GoPro for Grown Ups

Love shooting video but want to create something more exciting than the average clips seen posted on YouTube? Like shooting stills but want to incorporate them into a slide show or a video?
GoPro for GrownUps is a short practical course designed to show students how to get the best from their compact HD video camera – doesn’t matter if this is a GoPro or another brand. While doing this you’ll learn a new approach to composition, shooting, film-making and editing.
GoPro (and similar) HD cameras are typically the weapon of choice for extreme sports fans wanting to record their near-death experiences as they jump off, dive into, or ride through mountains, cliff faces or raging torrents. But this is not the only way to get adrenaline-fuelled impressive imagery.
What many photographers miss is the simple fact that, because the camera is so small, it‘s also incredibly versatile – far more versatile than much larger and heavier DSLR cameras. You can use the GoPro like a regular camera but shoot from wildly different positions and angles creating a perspective and point of view rarely seen with regular DSLR photography. This applies to both stills and moving images (but probably more so in video).

Photo Bookmaking for Beginners

In this practical photo bookmaking class, learn how to produce a professional-looking photo book. Beginning with a set of your own hand-picked images (200+), learn about the different book types, paper stock, bindings, cover styles, see samples from some of the best companies on the market, learn about their product options, plus the advantages and disadvantages they might have.
Participants will learn how to make their own page layouts using free software, (Booksmart) how to create good page design, how to access new and exciting fonts, create custom backgrounds and how to add textures and special effects to give their book project a unique feel.
The concept behind this class is to work with a set of (previously edited) photos and explore ways to put the final touches on the book project during the workshop meetings.
The final book, once completed and uploaded to the Blurb server, is then critiqued by the tutor before you actually order the product.
